How to identify trailer brake cables! 

Identifying your trailer brake cables is easy when you know what to look for! 

Brake cables also known as bowden cables are an extremely important part of all braked trailers. These should be changed if they are starting to blister, have seized up or have been bent. Without properly operational bowden cables your trailers brakes wont work properly or at all! 
This guide will show you how to easily identify the make and size of the brake cables your trailer needs. 

AL-KO VS. Knott Brake cables. 

There is one main feature you have to look at when trying to figure out what make of brake cables your trailer needs. 

AL-KO Brake cables 

The easiest way to identify AL-Ko brake cables is by measuring the Bell. This is the part of the brake cable that is closest to the brake drum. 
The bell on a AL-KO brake cable is 26mm (ext.) / 23.5mm (int.) 

Knott Brake cables 

The easiest way to identify Knott brake cables is by measuring the Bell. This is the part of the brake cable that is closest to the brake drum. 
The bell on a Knott brake cable is 22mm (ext.) / 18.5mm (int.) 

Measuring a trailer brake cable.  

When measuring a trailer brake cable use the above images as a reference, the measurement we use is (L1) It is important that brake cables are not too long or too short when fitting.
